Visvesvaraya Technological University is a Public state technical university in Karnataka, India. It was established on 1 April 1998 by the Government of Karnataka as per VTU Act 1994 to improve the quality of technical education and cater the growing need for technological manpower of the state. VTU is named after Sir M.Visvesvaraya from Karnataka, the only engineer to be awarded a Bharat Ratna (translates to Jewel of India or Gem of India in English) award, the highest civilian award in India.
